Captain Carl led the Sox to the ’67 Impossible Dream Season, and again in ’75, brought Red Sox Nation to the brink of a Championship before falling to the Reds in a heartbreaking 7th game.
It was during that latter season that Yastrzemski wore this offered jersey. The knit fabric is dead-on mid ‘70s, although lightly soiled and off-color (perhaps due to a brief tour of minor league use). The only trim present, during this “pull-over” period, was the V-neck collar where red, midnight navy and red braid add color to simplicity. The front identifiers and the “8” on the verso are classically and correctly fonted. Here again, the rigors of time have rendered the two-color tackle twill slightly faded and mildly puckered.
The labeling is intact with McAuliffe and size (42) sewn in tandem beneath the collar braid, while washing instructions/"1975" are sewn in similar fashion to the lower tail. During the regular season, the Sox’s home jerseys featured a Massachusetts Bicentennial patch on the sleeve - but not during the post season. Their storied World Series against the Reds in 1975 saw the Red Sox wearing no patch on the jersey sleeves. This Yaz offering was, with high probability, from the post-season order. After its use, it was sent to the Spring Training site and minor league headquarters for reassignment. The jersey is a size 42 which was appropriate for Yaz at this point in his career. Accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity from game used memorabilia authority 100% Authentic.
