During the 1960s, the race to land the first man on the moon was first and foremost in the minds of the American and Russian governments. While each space program had their fair share of setbacks, the United States space program took its biggest step at 4:18 p.m. ET, on July 20, 1969. In the area of the moon known as "The Sea of Tranquility" the Apollo lunar lander touched down on the surface of the moon. Fans standing for the National Anthem at Yankee Stadium cheered, while across the ocean in London, England the broadcasters announced, "The American's have done it!" That moment defined the end of the turbulent 1960s as America emerged as the winner in the race to the surface of the moon. Presented is a July 20, 1969 stamped envelope honoring the historic Apollo 11 crew, nicely hand signed by Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin (who has signed twice) and Michael Collins. Overall in fine condition. Authenticated by Beckett/BAS with a full letter of authenticity.
