The 1927-28 Barnstorming Tour of Bustin' Babe and Larrupin' Lou was wildly successful and provided fans in cities without Major League teams a rare opportunity to see the great Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig in action. A largely profitable trip, it is said that Lou Gehrig earned more money on these trips than he was paid by the Yankees. Most of the barnstorming games ended early because there was such spectator pandemonium from fans rushing the field for an autograph or attempting to circle the bases alongside Ruth. Perhaps no dual-signed baseball is more coveted than a Ruth-Gehrig special, and this gem was almost certainly signed by the two during a barnstorming tour stop. The Goldsmith "New York Club" baseball features Ruth's bold signature in blue ink across the sweet spot, with Gehrig dutifully placing his autograph ideally on the panel below in the same blue ink. The ball itself is only mildly toned with minor scuffin. A notation on the north panel in an unknown hand recalls the location of the signing "Denver" with a mis-remembered date of "1924". Make no mistake, this is one of the most outstanding Ruth/Gehrig dual-signed balls we have ever offered - a perfect centerpiece to any baseball collection! Accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA.
