A choice piece of game used memorabilia for the Yankee collector, presented here is a vintage Rawlings professional model fielder's glove, personally owned and used by Yankee great Bobby Richardson during the 1960 season. The glove itself exhibits terrific wear, a testament to the fact that a glove is perhaps the most well used item by a baseball player (even today, most baseball players use the same glove for most or all of the season). The palm area and fingers exhibit solid wear and Richardson's name is penned along the side of the pinky finger ("B. Richardson"). Originating direct from Richardson via a donation to a Jerry Falwell Charity Auction in the 1980s, accompanying the glove are photocopies of Richardson's original purchase receipt from Rawlings dated August 10, 1960, along with a photocopy of an accounting receipt for merchandise received from Richardson on Thomas Road Baptist Church letterhead. Given the date of the gloves purchasing, it can be assumed with relative confidence that this same glove was used by Richardson in the 1960 World Series. While the Yanks did not win, Richardson's performance in the series was so strong that he earned World Series MVP honors despite being on the losing team! Use, significance, documentation--this one has it all!
