As disappointed as Boston fans were with Ted Williams' retirement, they did not have to live with the let-down for too long. The following season brought an able replacement in young Carl Yastrzemski. Not only was he another power hitter, he proved to be a much better outfielder than Williams had been, eventually earning seven Golden Gloves and becoming yet another legend playing on the Green Monster. A three-time American League batting champion and MVP Award winner, Yaz is one of only a few players in history to amass over 400 home runs and 3000 overall hits. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1989. Offered here is an Louisville Slugger K48 model bat used by Carl Yastrzemski in the early 1980s. Weighing in at 30 ounces with a 35 inch length, the bat shows excellent use with a handle crack and a small chip. Ball marks, stitch impressions, and red bat rack streaks are also visible on the barrel. Standard attributes to Yaz are present, including his uniform number "8" on the knob in large black marker, sketched as two circles place on top of one another. The bat has also been signed by the slugger TWICE - once in black felt tip marker and once in blue felt tip marker. All manufacturing details date the bat to those ordered by Yaz during the 1983 season. Accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA with a grade of GU 7.5.
