When it comes to collecting signatures in the future, possibly no other artist holds more up-side than West Coast Hip-Hop legend Tupac “2Pac” Shakur. His image & allure is still untouchable even 15+ years after his tragic death in Las Vegas. For 9 months in 1995, Tupac served time in the Clinton Correctional Facility in New York on sexual assault charges. Shortly after beginning his sentence, he released his third studio album "Me Against the World", becoming the first and only artist to ever have a number one hit while in prison. Two months before his release, on August 22, 1995, Tupac sent this envelope, written entirely in his hand, with a letter and photo enclosed to a Ms. Simi Chouhan. It is now known that just a few days earlier, on August 17, he had also sent Chouhan a page of lyrics written exclusively for her called "What [Eye] Believe" - potentially one of the only songs he wrote while he was in prison. Although her relationship with Tupac was unknown, she clearly held a special place in his heart. The envelope measures 3" x 6.5" and includes Tupac's return address at the correctional facility, including his prisoner number 95A1140; Chouhan's entire Los Angeles address; a note from Tupac to the post office - "Please don't bend, picture enclosed"; and normal postmarking (dated August 22) as well as a Clinton Correctional Facility Stamp. Overall in good condition with mild expected handling wear from mailing. Due to his untimely death in September of the following year, handwritten pieces by Tupac are extremely rare on the market and are only expected to go up in value, and this commemoration from his time in prison should not be overlooked.
