Perhaps best known for uttering the famous phrase, "Give me liberty, or give me death!", Patrick Henry was one of the Founding Fathers, and the first post-Colonial Governor of Virginia. Offered here is an appointment document from Patrick Henry as Governor, dated October 20, 1786. The appointment has been made out to Sydnor Bennett Gent, appointing him as Lieutenant in the Militia in the County of Loudoun. The document has been signed in bold steel tip by Patrick Henry at the conclusion. In fine condition, this is one of the earliest appointment documents we have ever handled, and the first from Henry! The document exhibits three vertical creases and one horizontal crease, as well as scattered foxing, spotting, and toning - all expected for a document of this age. Accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity from Beckett Authentication Services (BAS).
