Exceptional signed Revolutionary War dated Free Frank from President George Washington to 2nd in command major general Arthur St. Clair! St. Clair would serve under Washington during the Revolutionary War, crossing the Delaware River with G.O & even assisting with the closing stages of the War as an aide-de-camp to the future President at Yorktown during Lord Cornwallis surrender of the British army. Offered here is an 6.75" x 3.75" addressed by another to “Major General St. Clair, Philadelphia,” and franked in the lower left, “G:o Washington.” Overall in good condition with a minor folded area repaired with vintage paper backing. While Washington Free Franks are rare in any-form, this offering in particular bares not only an important recipient, but the location of the future Capital, Philadelphia, one of only a few known examples! Authenticated & encapsulated by PSA/DNA.
