This document, signed by John Hancock, the first signer of the Declaration of Independence, dated May 20th, 1762 is a promissory note to Thomas Hancock Esq. (Hancock's uncle for whom he worked) "to pay to W. James Nichols or Order the Sum of One Hundred and Eighty dollars it being cash receiv'd for use of His Majesty's Works here". Signed at the conclusion "John Hancock" with the date "28th May" also written in Hancock's hand, Hancock was likely signing this on behalf of his uncle, whose health was already failing at this time. In overall good condition with three vertical creases (one of which runs through the "J" of Hancock'as signature). This is a handsome example of the original John Hancock's "John Hancock"! Authenticated & encapsulated by Beckett Authentication Services (BAS).
