Catherine the Great was Empress of Russia from 1762–96. With an unconventional start she murdered her husband, Peter III, and proclaimed herself Czarina in 1762. Ornate DS on vellum, in Russian, signed (in Russian) “Ekaterina,” one page, 14.5 x 8.5, 1772 impressively matted to an overall size of 16” x 20”. Catherine signs a commission for an unknown party. In very good condition, with scattered light toning and foxing, some heavy folds and wrinkles consistent with vellum documents, the beginning of Catherine’s signature a shade or two light, but completely legible, and red wax remnants from the missing seal. Previously approved with a prior auction house by PSA/DNA.
