Partly-printed, one-page vellum land grant, approximately 13.5” x 9.5”, dated January 24, 1818, and signed “James Monroe” by the 5th President of the United States. Via this document, Monroe grants “William Woodland, late a Private in … the fourteenth Regiment of Infantry a certain Tract of Land containing one hundred and fifty acres … in the Territory of Illinois.” Intact Land Office seal affixed. This document is VG and has intersecting folds (one through a single letter of signature), slightly trimmed edges, a few small areas of paper loss, and mild toning and foxing. Docketing and a heavier area of toning on the reverse. Monroe’s signature is exceptional! Accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA.
