Similar to Jeter & Rivera, when Mantle was ready to hang up the famed Pinstripes, the whole league was in shock. Mantle would go on to announce his retirement prior to the 1969 season leaving the Yankees with big shoes to fill. Offered here is an original 1969 Springfield Republican newspaper page, with the headline “Mantle Hangs Up His Spikes & No. 7.” Signed on the top left corner in blue felt tip marker by Mickey Mantle in near-mint fashion.
