With a new stadium, a staggering payroll, and a World Series championship drought approaching nearly a decade, there're plenty of expectations put on the 2009 Yankees roster. And in true Yankee fashion, the team answered the call, posting an impressive 103 win season while marching through the playoffs en route to a dominating World Series victory over the Philadelphia Phillies. Lead by the Capitan, Derek Jeter, who would surprise many doubters by posting arguably his most impressive year of his career finishing third in MVP voting, while winning a gold glove, silver slugger & the aforementioned World Championship. While Jeter gamers from World Series years are with out question one of the most desirable bats of the modern hobby, this offering shows use that is seldom seen in the modern game. The uncracked white ash weapon features a glossy black “Smith” finish, silver-colored trademark stampings and is signed by Jeter in silver felt marker on the barrel. The lumber exhibits evidence of outstanding game use with ball, cleat and deeply embedded stitch marks, as well as grain swelling, white scuff marks and blue ink transfers (from OML baseball stamping) about the barrel. Authenticated by PSA/DNA receiving an impressive grade of GU 9.5 by John Taube & more importantly accompanied by a rare letter of authenticity from Jeter himself on Steiner letterhead testifying the use of the battered specimen.
