The Nobel Peace Prize is arguably one of the most prestigious prizes in the world and has been awarded annually since 1901 to those who have "done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses," as directed by award creator Alfred Nobel. Offered here is a First Day Cover signed by six winners of the elusive Peace Prize - Norman Borlaug, a biologist who was awarded in 1970 in recognition of his contributions to world peace through increasing food supply; Linus Pauling, who was awarded in 1962 for his peace activism and who is one of only two people (along with Marie Curie) to win two different unshared Nobel prizes (his second being the prize in Chemistry in 1954 for his scientific work); Elie Wiesel, author of the acclaimed "Night", who won in 1986, with the Norwegian Nobel Committee calling him a "messenger to mankind," stating that through his struggle to come to terms with "his own personal experience of total humiliation and of the utter contempt for humanity shown in Hitler's death camps", as well as his "practical work in the cause of peace", Wiesel had delivered a message "of peace, atonement and human dignity" to humanity; Yitzhak Rabin, Israel's Prime Minister who won in 1994 together with long-time political rival Shimon Peres and Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat; Mikhail Gorbachev, the final leader of the Soviet Union, who was awarded in 1990 for "his leading role in the peace process which today characterizes important parts of the international community"; and lastly, Desmond Tutu, who won in 1984 for his "role as a unifying leader figure in the campaign to resolve the problem of apartheid in South Africa". Six of the greatest and most peaceful minds in the world come together on this commemorative FDC - don't miss your chance! In fine condition. Please note that the white streak in the image is simply a reflection off of the plastic holder, not a flaw with the item itself. Authenticated & encapsulated by Steve Grad/Beckett Authentication Services (BAS).
