Partly-printed 14.75" x 19.5" document dated June 12, 1879 and signed "R.B Hayes" as president. President Hayes appoints Calvin D. Cowles “First Lieutenant in the Twenty-Third Regiment of Infantry”. Signed at the conclusion by Hayes and countersigned by Secretary War George McCrary. In very good condition, with very light scattered toning. The document has five horizontal folds and one vertical fold. The bright blue Presidential seal remains intact. Authenticated by PSA/DNA with a full letter of authenticity.
