Chester Nimitz was an American five-star admiral who was the Commander of the U.S. Pacific fleet and chief of naval operations during World War II. Offered here is a black and white photo picturing Nimitz signing the Japanese surrender documents onboard the U.S.S. Missouri on September 2, 1945, officially bringing WWII to an end. The rare oversized photo is signed in blue ink: "To Woodall Rodgers, Mayor - With best wishes and great esteem, C.W. Nimitz, Fleet Admiral USN." He also inscribed the date he signed, "7 Dec 1946", adding even more significance to this particular signed artifact, as this was on the 5 year anniversary of the attacks on Pearl Harbor, the event that officially brought the U.S. into WWII and their conflict with the Japanese in the first place. Overall fine condition. Accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA.
