Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Ernie Pyle earned wide acclaim in the early part of the 20th century for his accounts of ordinary people in rural American, and later, of ordinary American soldiers during World War II. His syndicated column ran in more than 300 newspapers nationwide. After the U.S. entered WWII, he lent his recognizable folksy style to his wartime reports, both from the home front and from the European and Pacific theatres. he was killed by enemy fire during the Battle of Okinawa, the very last pitched battle of World War II. Harry Truman himself noted that "no man in this war has so well told the story of the American fighting man as American fighting men wanted it told". Ernie Pyle himself has signed this Union Trust Company bank check dated August 9, 1930 for the amount of $20 for an advance on a papering "opt". Filled out entirely in the hand of Pyle with a confident signature at the bottom. In fine condition with two vertical creases. Authenticated & encapsulated by Beckett Authentication Services (BAS).
