Led Zeppelin is widely considered to be one of the most successful, innovative, and influential bands in the history of rock music. They have sold over 200 million albums worldwide and are in an elite category with The Beatles and Garth Brooks as statistically the greatest artists ever. They defined rock music and the rock lifestyle. Parents hated them, but their attitude resonated with a new group of teens who rebelled against the social norm. When you imagine the rock star life, you're imagining the life of Led Zeppelin in the 1970s. They destroyed hotels, played record-breaking crowds (they are often considered to have been even better live than recorded), and flew around the world in their own passenger jet dubbed "The Starship". However, they are not only adored by fans but also respected by famous musicians. Aerosmith, Guns 'N Roses, and Van Halen all borrowed the sound from just one Zeppelin song - "Whole Lotta Love" - for their basic feel. Imagine - some of the best rock bands since Zeppelin have based their ENTIRE feel as a band on just ONE Led Zeppelin Song. Now THAT is influence. Brian May of Queen has even said that Led Zeppelin created the overall blueprint of a rock band.
