There will never be another Marlon Brando, who was arguably the greatest actor not only in his own country but in the history of theater and film. Decades after the height of his fame, his work is still the gold standard to which actors aspire. He was the leading figure in what came to be known as "method acting", placing emphasis on character motivation, ad libbing beyond the script, and explosive emotion. He was incredibly well-versed in everything from classical theater to his contemporary film. Offered here is a 1966 note handwritten by Brando showing off some of his classic knowledge with a quote from Shakespeare's "Macbeth". The note reads, in full: "Mister Eisenstaedt, If 'there is no art to find the mind's construction in the face', you have, perhaps, have helped importantly to give it life. Sincerely yours, Marlon Brando, London, February 1966". On the reverse, an unknown hand has confirmed that the note was written to photographer and photojournalist Alfred Eisenstaedt, in reference to his now famous photographs often featured in LIFE magazine. In overall fine condition, the 5" x 7" notebook page has minor handling wear and scattered toning, with several punctures to the left side from its previous residence in a journal. A one-of-a-kind piece from a legend quoting the classics! Authenticated & encapsulated by Beckett Authentication Services (BAS).
