Civil War–dated partly-printed vellum DS as president, one page, 19.5” x 15” , July 2, 1864. As the Civil War enters its final year, President Lincoln appoints W.H. Doherty to the rank of Captain as the Assistant Quarter Master of Volunteers. Boldly signed at the conclusion by Lincoln and countersigned by Secretary of the War Edwin Stanton. The blue military seal affixed to the mid-left remains fully intact. In fine condition, with heavy intersecting storage folds, scattered foxing and soiling, and some water stains on the bottom 3 or so inches with one small perforation about one inch in size. A full letter of authenticity will accompany this item from PSA/DNA.
