Regarded as an honorary title towards the end of the Civil War following 1863, to receive a Brevet appointment during the later days of the War signified gallantry or meritorious service. With a vast majority of the Union Army brevet ranks were awarded on or as of March 13, 1865, this hand written Presidential Brevet appointment would prove of special importance. Written by President Abraham Lincoln to William Buckingham, Governor of Connecticut, regarding appointing (Brevet) a local General on Feb 24th, 1865. Signed off by the President with a bold "A. Lincoln" signature, it goes without saying this request was granted by the Governor. Overall in fine condition with a collectors notation to the bottom left and handling wear to the edges.
