This incredibly rare part of a published letter in the Jefferson papers (Library of Congress) has been written entirely in the hand of Thomas Jefferson to Dr. Charles Meriweather. In it, Jefferson responds to a letter from Meriwether who described an exceedingly rare atmospheric phenomena which today still renders conjecture. Jefferson responds that the phenomena occurs with some regularity near the North Pole, but are rarely ever seen further south. Jefferson's response was written in the last year of his life. The entire letter is published on the Founder.Archives.gov website, however today only the lower half, offered here, remains. An incredible, museum-worthy piece of memorabilia from one of our most revered Founding Fathers! Overall in good condition with the item affixed to black backing.
