Among the most scarce of Babe Ruth signed baseballs in existence is this souvenir baseball from "Babe Ruth Day – July 6, 1938" that boasts an exceptional signature of the day's honoree, the legendary Yankee Slugger, boldly signed on the sacred sweet spot by the Babe with an exceptional blue ballpoint signature. The date of July 6th, 1938 would be a special day throughout Major League Baseball as the All-Star game was played, and more notable for this offering, the declaration of “Babe Ruth Day” made by the minor league Syracuse Chiefs. The Chiefs would provide the venue for this rare signed artifact from an exhibition game between the Chiefs and the visiting Brooklyn Dodgers with whom Ruth was then a Coach; hired by the Dodgers at the end of his playing career because of his star power. Ruth played in all of the Dodgers' exhibition games in 1938 and his presence in the lineup was heralded weeks in advance at every venue where the team was scheduled to appear. The Syracuse faithful were particularly ecstatic over Ruth's arrival and honored him by declaring July 6, 1938 "Babe Ruth Day" in Syracuse. It seemed that the entire town turned out for the game that night, as the reported attendance figure of more than 11,000 was far greater than that of any regular season Chiefs game. This Babe Ruth signed baseball from this event is certainly one of the most interesting, outstanding, and rare Ruth signed pieces dating from his legendary last hurrah in professional baseball with the Dodgers in 1938. Overall in stunning condition with a light even hue of toning & minor scuff-marks, otherwise surprisingly clean. A great item with an even better story that is worthy of a centerpiece to any baseball collection. Accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity from James Spence Authentication (JSA).
