Released shortly before The Smith’s broke up, there was really only one opportunity to get this record signed and that was when the band performed this song on April 23, 1987 for Top Of The Pops, which was their last public appearance. And that was when this was signed, for a BBC worker, and coming with the aforementioned letter of provenance detailing the signing circumstances. This is supremely rare and research indicates it to be the only known period-signed copy autographed when they were still a band to come to market.
