Daniels of the Oakland Enquirer, in full: "It was fine to hear from you and also to get a copy of that editorial. I still bear it in mind. Let me take this opportunity, my dear Mr. Daniels, of thanking you for the good work which you did to help bring about the magnificent victory in your State. It was a great triumph, and I am particularly appreciative of the way in which the women stood with us." Light creasing and staining, toning, and tape along the back of the central horizontal fold. In 1912, Theodore Roosevelt came out for women's suffrage and became a great champion of women's rights. Despite overwhelming support for Roosevelt in the Republican primaries, Taft was handed the nomination at the Republican National Convention in June. Roosevelt then broke away from the party to run as a member of the Progressive Party (nicknamed the 'Bull Moose Party'). Recognizing his support for women's suffrage, Jane Addams endorsed Roosevelt at the National Progressive Convention in August, and seconded his nomination for president.
