An awesome piece of memorabilia that mapped out the twilight of the career of one of the greatest pitchers in MLB history, presented here is a five-page Uniform Player's Contract between George Thomas Seaver and the Chicago White Sox, Ltd. for the 1984 season. While initially for the 1984 season, two additional team options for 1985 and 1986 that were exercised resulted in this being Seaver's final contract of his career.
This document is comprised of fine-print binding agreements with typewritten specifics filling allocated spaces. For this particular covenant, the typed information included Seaver's name and hometown as well as his annual stipend of $750,000. A sixth page, adding "Special Covenants," has been signed by Seaver on the appropriate line and dated March 26th, 1984. His scripting of "George Thomas Seaver" in black fountain pen projects "8" strength and clarity. This sixth page, also signed by A.L. President Robert W. Brown, bears an "Assignment" stamping from when Seaver was assigned to the'Boston Red Sox in June of 1986. Also included are two typewritten letters to Seaver in'regards to the renewal this 1984 contract for the 1985 and 1986 seasons, but with higher salaries ($800,000 and $900,000 respectively).
The five original contract pages and two typed letters have been fully adhered to a thick backing, exhibit some minor toning and adhesive residue, and bear multiple tiny staple holes near their top left corners. The "Special Covenants" signed page exhibits the same toning and staple holes but has not been subject to the cardboard mounting or adhesive wear (EX). All pages measure 8-1/2" x 11".
