Ty Cobb's playing style cannot be summed up in one word, but if we had to choose one, it would be nothing other than ferocious. The Georgia Peach would grace the diamond for over 20 years, amassing over 4000 hits & an incredible .366 lifetime batting average. Cobb would be the first player in Major League Baseball history to reach the 4000 hit milestone while always playing with an attitude. Offered here is the famous black & white newspaper photo of Ty Cobb sliding into third base into New York third baseman Jimmy Austin, snapped by photographer Charles Conlon on July 23, 1910. It was long rumored that Cobb, with his prickly personality, intentionally sharpened the spikes on his cleats to take out other players mid-slide, though Cobb firmly resented those accusations. The 4" x 7" newspaper image with caption has been signed by Ty Cobb ins his typical green ink, along with a personalization. In overall fine condition. Authenticated & encapsulated by Beckett Authentication Services (BAS).
