Just three months after his second round knockout of Trevor Berbick gained him the WBC Heavyweight championship, "Iron" Mike Tyson signed this contract to fight WBA champion James "Bonecrusher" Smith for the WBA belt and the opportunity to completely unify the title among boxing's three main governing bodies, with the winner earning the right to fight the current (at the time) IBF Heavyweight champion Michael Spinks. Tyson earned a unanimous decision in 12 frustrating rounds and later made quick work of Spinks, becoming the youngest boxer to hold the WBC, WBA and IBF titles at 20 years, 4 months and 22 days old. This two-page 8.5" x 14" "Official Boxing Contract [of the] Nevada Athletic Commission Articles of Agreement" is dated March 3, 1987 - three days before the bout - and calls for Tyson to receive $1.5 million and $1 million for Smith. Tyson signed the bottom of his page of the contract in blue ballpoint pen. The contract is also signed in black ballpoint pen by fight promoter Butch Lewis of Dynamic Duo, Inc. and by Tyson's manager Jim Jacobs, also in blue ballpoint pen. Smith and Lewis each signed the bottom of his page of the contract, respectively in blue and black ballpoint pens. Accompanied by full Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA.
