In the American imagination, the founding era shimmers as the golden age of political discourse, a time when the common man held their ground & helped pioneer this great country. George Washington & Thomas Jefferson shared an extensive amount of time together during those golden years, helping to provide the backbone of the government we have today. One a simple man, a planter/soldier of no formal education, the other a philosopher, inventor and enrollment in the College of William and Mary. Despite the differences of these two great leaders, some of their best works came during their time together in the late 1700's. Helping to inspire such staples as The Bill of Rights, The 11th/12th Amendment & of course the Declaration of Independence. This seldom seen offering features the two founding fathers together c.1790-93 during Washington's term as President & Jefferson's role as Secretary of State. Stunning large and crisp ink signatures, “Go: Washington,” and “Th: Jefferson,” on an off-white 4" x 5.5" portion taken from a larger document. Written between the signatures, in a Jefferson's hand, a seldom seen task for the all important secretary, “By the President.” Signatures are beautifully in nature with President Washington's a tad bolder than Jefferson's. Overall in excellent condition given the age with minor staining, surface impressions & two vertical folds. Authenticated by PSA/DNA with a full letter of authenticity.
