The Bambino's 1948 Autobiography Showcasing a Stunning MINT 9 Autograph!
Babe Ruth signed and inscribed this first edition biography, "The Babe Ruth Story," as told to Bob Considine and published by E.P. Dutton & Co., New York. The signature is on the title page and is a very strong blue ink and has been graded a MINT 9 by PSA/DNA. Inside pages are overall clean and in near fine condition, with 49 photo plates, illustrations and pictorial endpapers. No dust jacket, and the exterior shows some wear.
How this particular pressing survived for so long and remains in good condition is somewhat of a miracle. Shortly after being signed by Ruth, this book found it's way into the the St. Vincent's school library, presumably gifted to the school when it opened in 1948--the same year that the book was published. During the 50+ years of the school's existence the book sat in the library, being checked out numerous times by students before being decommissioned in with the school's closure in the 1990s. In 2003, the school liquidated all of it's assets, with the book being a feature piece of the auction. Accompanying the book is an original flyer from the auction. Very cool!
Accompanied by a full Letter of Grading & Authenticity from PSA/DNA, along with a Letter of Authenticity from Beckett Authentication Services (BAS).
