Scarce and sought-after Revolutionary War military discharge document signed by then-General, and soon-to-be America’s First President, George Washington. A discharge certificate for Edmund E. Hill, a matross in the 2d New York Artillery regiment, who was a long-serving veteran in the War for Independence, having enlisted on January 1, 1777. The historic document, 8” x 11.25,” is partially printed, dated “Ninth day of June, 1783,” and boldly signed by the Commander-in-Chief “Geo. Washington.” Additionally countersigned by Washington’s military secretary Jonathan Trumbull. In very good condition, as most other discharge documents of this age are, with folds and a few infills, not at all effecting the bold signature. Attractively ‘float’ matted and framed to an overall size of 14.5” x 20.5.” Authenticated by Beckett (BAS) and accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity. Originating from the “Charles E. Sigety Collection of Americana” at Christie’s December 7, 2015, and later sold by University Archives. Boasting fantastic provenance from one of the world’s most prestigious auction houses, Christie’s, and officially authenticated by the world’s foremost historical autograph expert, John Reznikoff, this boldly penned, Revolutionary War-dated Washington would make a sound investment for any accomplished collector.
