Document signed, "James Monroe," as President, October 6, 1817, Washington, 9.5" x 12.75". A grant of land endowed to Edward Sculley, "late a private in Haye's company of twentieth regiment of infantry," for 160 acres in the Territory of Illinois. Impressive vignette in the upper left; the official seal remains fully intact. The manuscript portions of the document (in another hand) are somewhat light, however Monroe's signature is stronger and fully visible and legible. Framed to an overall size of 18" x 15". Some edgewear, fold impressions and minor soiling as expected with a 200+ year old document, otherwise fine.
