One-page watercolor measuring 11" x 8", no place [Denmark], dated July 22, 2009. A colorful watercolor entitled "Artist on the beach", featuring an artist painting a sailboat, a crow, a mermaid, and a female sunbather. Signed "KW." On verso, Westergaard has addressed a lengthy letter to "Ben", regarding recent visits from his extended family. Signed at the conclusion "Kurt", the letter reads in full:
"Thank you very much for your kind letter, I am sorry, that I first now answer your letter. I have been on vacation, and I have been ill, problems with my knee, so I hope to hear from you again. We have been visited by my two grandchildren from Florida. Very beautiful and smart kids. As five and six years old, they can already write and read! Are you working on new presidential portraits? You are a master! Also this year we have in Denmark a summer with changing weather, blue and grey skies, and we like it that way. Dear Ben, I am looking forward to receive your next letter. Best wishes, and have a nice summer!"
The letter contains several grammatical errors, as Westergaard's first language is not English. With light edge toning and boldly signed.
Kurt Westergaard (b. 1935) is a Danish cartoonish, most famous for his controversial cartoon, published in September 2005, of a terrorist. Since the publication of the cartoon, Westergaard has received numerous death threats and been a target of at least three assassination attempts.
