Allende meteorite slice, weighing 21.5 grams and measuring approximately 106 mm x 57 mm x 2 mm. Carbonaceous chondrites are a rare and scientifically important group of stone meteorites. They carry within them the last traces — sometimes in the form of tiny diamonds, as found in Allende— of extremely ancient and long-vanished suns or planets that pre-dated our own solar system by billions of years.
Rich in carbon, carbonaceous chondrites like Allende and Murchison are widely studied for what they can tell scientists about our solar system’s history. Allende slices display calcium-rich inclusions (CAIs), which are about 4.6 billion years old, some of the oldest material that any human has ever encountered. They can also contain armored chondrules, which refer to the shiny ring seen surrounding chondrules in a meteorite slice, the result of metal sulfide gathering on the surface of chondrules either during chondrule formation or when metal-sulfide vaporized and then coated chondrules during cooling.
Accompanied by an Aerolite Meteorites COA. Aerolite, one of the world’s most well-respected meteorite companies, was founded by Geoff Notkin, who famously starred in the TV show “Meteorite Men.”
