Fantastic original ink drawing accomplished on a piece of white 8” x 10” paper in the hand of John Lennon. The drawing of “Large John Saliver” featuring the “Parable on his shouldy” represents a parody of one of the iconic Beatle’s favorite books, “Treasure Island,” by Robert Louis Stevenson. The artwork is unsigned but titled, “Treasure Ivan,” and inscribed at the bottom edge in an unknown hand “Reverse L to R” and the number, “43.” Appearing on page 43 (a picture of which is included in the listing) of Lennon’s first collection of stories, verse, and drawings, “In His Own Write, which was published in the UK by Jonathan Cape in March 1964. In fine condition.

Provenance: The Tom Maschler Collection, a literary editor at Jonathan Cape, Lennon gifted him with his original drawings as a gesture of thanks. This piece was first sold by Sotheby’s and later Bonham’s. A scarce and desirable Lennon original artwork featured in one of his most well-known publications. Accompanied by a COA from Beatles expert Frank Caiazzo.
