The image of The Beatles on the crossing has become one of the most famous and imitated in recording history. The front cover design, a photograph of the group traversing a zebra crossing, was based on sketched ideas by Paul McCartney and taken on 8 August 1969 outside EMI Studios on Abbey Road. Aside from being one of the most successful albums released by The Beatles, Abbey Road was also one of the most controversial, giving way to the famed "Paul is Dead" urban legend as a result of McCartney's barefooted appearance in the cover photo. Luckily Paul was not dead, and in fact alive and well enough to beautifully signed his name across the cover of this Capitol Records (U.S.) album pressing of the famed record in black felt tip marker. Overall in fine condition with handling wear to the edges and some light surface rubbing. Authenticated by Beckett Authentication Services (BAS) with a full letter of authenticity. Also accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Beatles autograph expert Frank Caiazzo.
