Just weeks away from the end of his second Presidential term, Theodore Roosevelt penned this moving letter, dated January 14, 1909, about political integrity on two sheets of White House letterhead, to be delivered to former Indiana state representative Frederick Landis. Reads, in part: "I do not care a rap whether a man is a President, a Senator, or a Congressman, as such. What I care for is that he shall be a thoroly straight, decent, and fearless representative of the people." Roosevelt goes onto use Abraham Lincoln as an example of a man who served justice both as a private citizen and as a politician: "[The people] were with him because he was right both times." Roosevelt's closing black fountain pen signature is near mint. Pages exhibit original mailing folds and light toning, but no major flaws of note. Accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA.
