Offered here is a one page, 12" x 7.75" stock certificate (with 4.25" x 7.75" attached receipt) signed by business giant John D. Rockefeller, Sr. (1839-1937). Issued by the "Standard Oil Trust" the document, numbered "A350" is signed by "J.D. Rockefeller" next to his title as President of the organization. His black fountain pen scripting projects a solid "8-9" strength and is secured by patterned embossing. The page is also signed by the company's treasurer and secretary. It is dated at the bottom, "...this 18th day of September A.D. 1883 at the City of New York." The Standard Oil Trust was formed in 1882 to consolidate Rockefeller's many holdings. It was dissolved in 1892 by decree of the Supreme Court acting under the Sherman Anti-Trust Act. The certificate is stamped "Cancelled" along the left edge. The receipt has also been re-affixed to the certificate. Vertical folds are visible on the piece, but they do not detract from the item's fine appearance.
