San Francisco Giants legend Willie McCovey cracked more than 500 home runs in his Hall of Fame career. McCovey, nicknamed "Stretch", was a Giant for 19 of his 22 seasons in the league and was one of the most beloved players in San Francisco. He led the MLB in home runs in 1963, 1968, and 1969. In 1977, at the age of 39, he hit 28 home runs and was awarded Comeback Player of the Year. He is one of only a handful of players who have hit home runs in four different decades. He also ranks among the top in RBIs. Offered here is a H&B Louisville Slugger S2 model bat hailing from that comeback period in 1977-1979. The 35.3", 33.7 oz piece of lumber is uncracked and exhibits evidence of excellent use with slight grain swelling on the back barrel. Several ball marks, stitch impressions, and blue bat rack marks can be seen all over the barrel. There is a light coat of pine tar on the upper handle, and McCovey's number "44" is written on the knob in black marker. The "flat knob" style was ordered frequently by McCovey in the 1970s through the end of his career. Overall, the bat has been graded a GU 9 and is accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA.
