Zep's landmark album signed backstage before historic 2007 02 Arena performanceOffered here is the “Alpha and Omega” of signed Led Zeppelin albums, which comes in the form of this pressing of their landmark 1969 album release, "Led Zeppelin II". The cover of this album showcases excellent black felt tip marker autographs of the group's three surviving members: Robert Plant, John Paul Jones and the ever-elusive Jimmy Page. As a unique twist, also included in the lower right corner is the autograph of John Bonham's son, Jason Bonham (who served as the drummer during the group's reunion performances), which is also penned in black felt tip marker. The cover itself exhibits some light but expected handling wear along the edges, none of which detracts from the signatures' impeccable appearance.
Equally impressive as the signed album itself is the way these signatures came together. Brothers Keith and Scott Donnell--who desperately wanted to see the group at their historic reunion shoes at the O2 Arena in England in 2007--paid a whopping 83,000 sterling pounds (which at the time was the equivalent of $170,000 US Dollars) to win 2 tickets and backstage access to the band through the BBC's Children in Need charity fundraiser. The amount of the sale was so shocking that it made international news at the time, being covered by BBC, ABC, NBC and countless other news outlets around the world.
Capitalizing on the opportunity, the brothers brought a couple cherished items to be signed, which the band agreed to during their backstage interaction. Accompanying the album is a handwritten Letter of Provenance from Scott Donnell who details the circumstances behind the encounter along with a photo of the Donnells with the group. Furthermore, the album is accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity from music autograph authority Roger Epperson/REAL Authentication.
