A seldom seen handwritten piece from controversial President Franklin Pierce, offered here is a two page letter, dated January 21, 1857 (Presidential era), written to E.L. Childs, Esq. in Washington. The letter reads, in part, "In the midst of my many engagements I had neglected to call Mr. Whiting's attention particularly to the application of Mrs. Larkin until yesterday. I am much gratified to learn from a note just received...that the evidence in the case was satisfactory and that he sent, to you a few days since the certificate allowing 50$ per month (the highest rate allowable)." Signed at the conclusion, "Franklin Pierce". Pierce would leave office just 6 weeks later, when James Buchanan would take over. In overall fine condition. Accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA.
