Legendary organized crime leader (1902-1983) who headed the notorious ‘enforcement’ syndicate Murder, Inc., which emerged in the early 1930s as successor to the warring Prohibition gangs and the old-line Mafia, and continued to operate into the 1950s. The National Shawmut Bank of Boston check, 6.25" x 2.75", filled out and signed by Lansky, payable to Registry of Motor Vehicles for $2.00, August 25, 1938. Bank cancellation intersects Lansky's last name; a section of paper loss towards the center of the check that was repaired at the time the check was written (hence ink on the backing paper); in otherwise fine condition.
