Unquestionably, the finest Cars album that we’ve encountered!
Here is a stunning 1978 US first pressing of The Cars legendary debut album, signed beautifully by: Ric Ocasek, Benjamin Orr, David Robinson, Elliott Easton and Greg Hawkes. Okasek has added the salutation, “To Jason!”. Okasek, Orr, Robinson and Easton have all signed in blue ballpoint. Greg Hawkes has signed in black ballpoint.
Comes with a detailed letter of provenance from the original recipient that states, in part: “My family and I lived in Toledo, Ohio, in the 1970’s, and my mom worked for Belkin Productions, which brought the top rock and roll tours through the Midwest. I was just a kid, but my mom obtained some great signatures for me, including these by the members of The Cars. This item has been carefully stored for over 40 years.” Per Roger Epperson: "This is the best Ric O signature I have ever seen. It must have been signed on their first tour." Indeed, The Cars played Toledo Sports Arena on July 30, 1978, at the onset of their first tour, just weeks after the release of this legendary album. True vintage-signed albums by The Cars are exceedingly scarce. Indeed, this is the only example of their debut album that we have ever seen, signed at the time of its release.
Considered by many to be one of the greatest debut albums ever released, Rolling Stone magazine ranked the album No. 16 in its “100 Best Debut Albums of All Time”. Rolling Stone also ranked the album No. 284 in its “500 Greatest Albums of All Time”. Charting for nearly three years, lead guitarist Elliott Easton famously stated: “We used to joke that the first album should be called The Cars Greatest Hits.”
An absolute cornerstone piece for any Cars collector! It doesn’t get any better than this! The cover and vinyl record are in excellent condition. Accompanied by COAs from Beckett (BAS) and Roger Epperson (REAL).
