Although Alexander Graham Bell is best known for his invention of the telephone (an undoubtedly astronomical invention considering the modern day dependence on the device), Bell also served for many years as a Regent of the Smithsonian Institution, from 1898-1922. Offered here is an 8" x 10" typewritten letter, dated August 4, 1920 to Mr. Paul Brockett, director of the Smithsonian Institution Libraries, introducing Mr. Larned E. Meacham, who had previously developed and patented useful improvements in hydroplane boats and was interested in examining the materials that the Smithsonian had collected on the subject over the years. Signed at the conclusion with a complete "Alexander Graham Bell" autograph in steel tip. In fine condition with two horizontal and one vertical crease, expected toning and some fading to the typewritten text, but with an incredibly bold autograph. The autograph exhibits some light saturation. Authenticated & encapsulated by Beckett Authentication Services (BAS).
