Sabbath’s legendary LP signed just weeks after its release

Here is a stunning original UK first Vertigo ‘Large Swirl’ vinyl pressing of Black Sabbath’s 2nd LP release ‘Paranoid’ which was released on 18th September 1970 that has been autographed on the gatefold very clearly by all four original members: Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Jerry ‘Geezer’ Butler, and Bill Ward. All four members have signed beautifully in blue ballpoint pen. The autographs were obtained at the Kings Head, Romford when Black Sabbath performed there on 18th October 1970. The album comes with a letter from a friend of the original recipient that reads, ‘This letter is in regards to the Black Sabbath signed Paranoid album. My friend started working at the Kings Head, Romford, collecting glasses during the gigs held there, I would think in early 1970 at the young age of 16/17. He must have been a very wise lad as he managed to not only get autographs from the majority of bands that played there on pieces of card and paper but also on the album’s he purchased with his hard-earned pocket money and wages from his job at the Kings Head, including this first pressing of Black Sabbath’s Paranoid album, signed by the band when they performed there on 18th October 1970. I did not frequent the Kings Head personally but was a regular at all of the other local clubs and we regularly rubbed shoulders with band members who tended to mix with the crowd and have a drink etc. I just wish I had the same wisdom that my mate had to get stuff signed etc but hey ho.’ Unsigned examples of this first press Vertigo 'large swirl' label are quite rare. This LP is one of the first pressings, as indicated by the wording ‘VERTIGO’ credited below the spindle hole on label side B. The matrix numbers are: Side A: 6360011 1Y//1 420 and Side B: 6360011 2Y//1 420. Side B has two gaps between the tracks, whereas all subsequent pressings have three gaps. The cover, original un-played disc and Vertigo inner sleeve are in excellent condition. First Vertigo pressings of this album are highly coveted, and this is the first example we have encountered, signed within weeks of its release. Accompanied by a detailed Letter of Provenance detailing the exact date and location as to where the album was signed. Accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity from music memorabilia authority Tracks UK.
