Five strands of hair belonging to pianist and composer Franz Liszt, each measuring approximately 1.5” in length. The hair is secured to a larger sheet of paper within a small card with a plastic overlay. The hair strands are a mix of light blonde and grey in color, possibly collected in 1884. Fine condition.

Franz Liszt (1811-1886) was a composer, priest, and one of the greatest piano virtuoso of his time. A similar lock of hair sampling was obtained from Liszt on June 17, 1884 by Carl V. Lachmund and presented to Mabel Wagnalls-Jones for the Wagnalls Memorial, New York, in May 1925 (a copy of a photo depicting that hair presentation is included with this lot). That sampling and this one were obtained at the same time.

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses. The John Reznikoff Hair Collection is certified as the Largest Hair Collection in The Guinness Book of World Records 2014.
