The incredible saga of the Green Bay Packers began in August 1919, when the Indian Packing Company agreed to sponsor a local pro football team under the direction of Earl "Curly" Lambeau. In 1921, the Packers were granted a membership in the new National Football League. Since then, the team has amassed 13 championships and led 20+ players and coaches into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. One of those championships occurred during the 1961 season, led by coach Vince Lombardi (who, alone, coached the team to six championships, including Super Bowls I and II). The game was the first to be played at what is now known as Lambeau Field in Green Bay, on December 31, 1961 versus the New York Giants. The Packers pummeled the Giants, ending the game with a score of 37-0. It was the first title won by Lombardi and the 7th title in their first 17 years as a franchise. Offered here is an incredible relic that is the first known to be offered, and may never be seen again - a player/type 1 ring for the 1961 World Champion Green Bay Packers. This particular ring was given to defensive end Bill Quinlan, who held onto it until his death in 2015. Made by Josten and measuring in at approximately 24.6 grams and an approximate size of 7.5, the 14k gold diamond ring has "Green Bay Packers World Champs 1961" surrounding the stone. One one side is the score "Green Bay 37, New York 0", along with the letters NFL. On the alternate side is a diagram of a player and the name "Bill Quinlan" and his player number "83". Due to the ring being resized, the manufacturer markings have been removed. Packers and NFL fans, take note - it doesn't get much better than this from one of the early World Champion teams - don't miss out on this indescribably rare opportunity! Accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity from ring expert T.J. Kaye at PSA/DNA.
