Written exactly one week after FDR's death and as she was arranging her move from the White House, Eleanor discusses the matter of her husband's passing with a Mrs. Good. In full: "I know what a shock this has been for you and how you truly mourn for my husband. In all of our grief, I can that God in His infinite mercy did not allow him to suffer. On us in this country I feel has been laid the burden of carrying his ideals--a burden that has become to great for one man to bear." .An intensely personal letter written at a time of great loss to not only Eleanor but to the entire country. Penned on official White House mourning stationary. Moderate handling wear and light toning, otherwise fine. One of the finest--if not the finest--Mrs. Roosevelt letter we've ever seen!
