Ty Cobb's playing style cannot be summed up in one word, but if we had to choose one, it would be nothing other than ferocious. The Georgia Peach would grace the diamond for over 20 years, amassing over 4000 hits & an incredible .366 lifetime batting average. Cobb would be the first player in Major League Baseball history to reach the 4000 hit milestone. Oddly enough, Cobb would quit his role as the player/manager of the Tigers in 1927 to join the Philadelphia Athletics in order to achieve that historic milestone. Any Cobb item associated with the Athletics is considered an extreme oddity in the hobby, including this stunning near-mint signed 8" x 10" black & white photo. A crisp photo of the Georgia Peach during the final years of his career with the Athletics signed right above Connie Mack's originated "White Elephant" logo in blue steel-tip pen. Inscription reads in full "From Ty Cobb, 6/9/1957," & has been graded MINT 9 by PSA/DNA. To date, this remains one of the highest graded Ty Cobb signed 8" x 10" photos to hit the open market. Overall in fine condition with expected handling wear to the edges, a slight tear to the upper right corner & minor discoloration to the left side of the image. Full letter of authenticity & grading from the experts at PSA/DNA.
