Flown 48-star American flag, 12" x 8.25" carried aboard Hughes' Lockheed 14 Super Electra between July 10 and 14, 1938. In fine condition and encapsulated in a 13” x 10.5” CAG holder. On July 10, 1938, Howard Hughes and his four-man crew took off in a Lockheed Model 14 Super Electra for a record-breaking round-the-world flight from Floyd Bennett Field. With stops in Paris, Moscow, Omsk, Yakutsk, Fairbanks, and Minneapolis, he returned to New York on July 14 to set a new world record, beating Wiley Post's 1933 record by nearly four days for which the City of New York honored Hughes with a tickertape parade down Broadway. The feat transformed the previously obscure tycoon into an international celebrity. Patriotic and sizeable American carried by Howard Hughes during his record breaking around-the-world flight in 1938!
